Today was my due date

And no baby Andrew yet. Although I'm very anxious to see and hold my baby after carrying him for the last 40 weeks, I'm also staying pretty calm and relaxed and just trying to enjoy my time with Bill before life gets a little more hectic. As of yesterday, he is on vacation for the next two weeks, so we're just hoping Andrew decides to come sometime within that time so the three of us can have some family time together before Bill has to go back to work. So my due date was pretty uneventful, we've just been hanging out close to home trying to pass the time until our son decides to make his grand entrance. Today we went out and ran some errands and then had lunch at my mom's. Afterwards we went to the library so I could check out the book "The Happiest Baby on the Block" which I've recently heard is a must read for new parents. My goal is to finish it this weekend. And tonight we have settled in for a long night of HGTV, Food Network, and our favorite show Psych. Let the waiting game begin...

My New and Improved Blog

Well, since I hadn't posted since last January, and with our first baby due any day now, I decided it was time to revamp my blog. It's now called the Baby Diaries and will focus on our new journey in life: parenting. Baby Andrew is due next Friday (August 21st), so now we are just patiently waiting. More to come soon...

Video of my Amazing Ultrasound

My friend Jamie at work did an ultrasound yesterday and it was truly one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Jamie has already done a few ultrasounds for me and, until this one, they baby looked like a little spec or a little bean. I was completely caught off gurad this time because for the first time it looks like a real baby now...arms, legs, fingers, toes...unbelievable!! We counted 10 fingers and 10 toes..brain and spinal cord look good and the heart was beating away. And we could hear it really good this time. The biggest surprise for me though was that the baby was moving around like crazy. In this video the baby is relatively calm but looks like it's waving. At one point it went wild and started thrashing around, shaking it's fists... I hope he or she doesn't have their mom's temper : )

We got a heartbeat!

So I had an ultrasound done last Friday at 7 weeks pregnant to look for the baby's heartbeat. I had a slight concern about the pregnancy and haven't had my first official OB/GYN appointment, so my Dr. sent me to have the ultrasound done because, although she was confident that everything was fine, she wanted to make sure there was cardiac activity. Well, thank God, we got to see a very strong heartbeat and got a great picture of the baby, which right now looks like a little bean. In the picture you can see the arms and legs which are starting to form (the little circles on the top and bottom of the bean are the arms, and the little flipper-like part on the one end are the feet). Amazing! So far, everything looks great and the baby is growing right on schedule. So for now, some of my fears have been put to rest and I can take a deep breath and relax (a little).

Happy Anniversary!

Today is our 1 year wedding anniversary! This year has flown by, it seems like just yesterday that we got married, and yet so much has happened since our wedding, one year ago today. I just pray that we can celebrate at least 50 more happy and healthy wedding anniversaries together.

Special Surprise!

On Monday night, Bill and I found out that we are expecting our first child. That night I had the urge to "pee on a stick", which is not that uncommon for, and to my complete surprise I actually had a second line this time, although very faint, still a line. I showed it to Bill and asked him if I was going crazy and seeing things. When he looked at it, I knew from the look on his face that he saw it too. Although I was super excited at this point, Bill was still skeptical, especially because it was a Dollar Tree test. I have always been told that "a line is a line" but he needed further convincing, so I went to CVS to get an EPT digital readout test. This one literally reads out "pregnant" or "not pregnant", so there would be no confusion as to the results. As I was waiting anxiously for the results, I started to get really nervous that maybe the first test was wrong, and I was getting my hopes up for nothing, but just then, the results showed that I was indeed "pregnant". I don't think I had ever been more excited in my entire life. Bill definitely seemed a little nervous about it at first, but after the initial shock wore off, I think he would agree with me that we have both never been so happy or excited as we are for this little one.
We decided that night that we would tell the people closest to us right away. I always wear my heart on my sleeve and I know for a fact that I would not be able to hide my emotions for very long. So we agreed that rather than have me stressing out about keeping this a secret we would just share our happy news. So the next day, after being awake all night, I could not wait to start calling everyone. We had so much fun telling our families and friends and everyone seemed to share our excitement, especially my side of the family, as this will be the first grandchild for my parents and first great-grandchild for my grandparents. My friends were all very supportive, especially because some have just had a child or are now expecting. Since Bill had to go away for work that night, Lisa and Cam came over for dinner to keep me company and Lisa brought over some great little gifts for me. She gave me her copy of "What to Expect When You're Expecting", a bottle of prenatal vitamins (great idea!), and a pregnancy journal that I absolutely love. That was so thoughtful of her. And although Cammy is only 8 mos. old, I think she was very excited to have a new friend : )
